22nd of October on board of the Sirius & lecture Kessels Kramer

We started the afternoon on board of the Sirius, a former protest boat of Greenpeace. They introduced to use their way of working and explaned how they prepare their activities. For example how to chain yourself in an effective way to an object!
Later we welcomed Krista Rozema of the advertisement agency Kessels Kramer. She introduced to us three ways of surviving
when you have no budget, no nice assignments and not all the sources you need. This resulted in three really good designs
The campaign for the Hans Brinker Budget Hotel, The Other Final (a soccer game of two teams, both in the lowest ranks in the world) and Diesel Dream ( a frame or platform for creative filmmakers constructed as a campaign for Diesel fashion).
Both parties showed their own specific way of working but promised to be an exciting combination of ingredients for the workshop tomorrow.

23rd of October, workshop day at Bloknoord

Today we had a challenging day, 6 hours to do the assignment. We gave an introduction and briefing and after that,
the four groupes settled in the ateliers of Bloknoord. Every group had his own approach, some immediately left and took
pictures outside, others discussed the assignment through and through.
The results illustrated the different methods that came up in the 4 groups, partly spontaneous, partly because of the structure of the day and introduction we had yesterday. We enjoyed everybodies efforts and projects!!

24th of October, tour Aardinghal and NDSM wharf

We met Bas Janssen of Red Concepts in front of the Aardinghal. He told us the history of the wharf which has been built after the war. The structure of the hall is a monument (the biggest at the wharf) and can't be changed. Over the building there is probably going to be built a huge "u" structure with offices for creative industry companies. Inside nothing can be changed, they will only restore it.
They are still looking for a purpose for the inside of the Aardinghal.
Their question is for us to design a programme (function, possible parties, etc) and an actual form for this (places, image, volumes, etc) and present this in an appealing way.
Some facts: 6500m2, 110 m length, 55m width and 22m high.
He made a nice comparison; the programme/design should be like the ships that were built there and became the temporary inhabitants of the hall, they also, like the project, disappeared again after a while.
So it has to be temporary, has to be open for the public, cultural minded and being connected to the atmosphere ( which is an international spot for media and creative industry) of the rest of the wharf.
After that we had a fast look around the NDSM wharf with Adri Doorneveld of Stadsdeel Amsterdam Noord.

25th of October, workshopday at Aardinghal

Today we started with the assignment for the Aardinghal, in a really nice projectroom which was also part of the Aardinghal.
From there you could also take a look inside the hall through some inside-windows. Again the four groups started in different
ways, discussing or going outside, recording films/audio.
At six, Bas Janssen, Red Concepts, had a look at the results and shared his views on the results. He also was really surprised
of how many nice ideas and concepts were presented!!
